The Upshift Verification Method

Every screenshot in this space is fake until proven otherwise.

This page is a short tutorial on how income screenshots get faked, why almost nobody in this space verifies their claims, and the three checks that take you sixty seconds to run on anyone. Including us.

The three screenshots below are fakes we made ourselves.

None of these numbers are real. Upshift has not sold 304 copies of anything. We made these in our browser in under two minutes to show you how easy it is.

We are showing you our own fakes for one reason. Once you have seen how it is done, you cannot unsee it on anyone else's post.

Fake 1 The "private dashboard" flex. Looks authoritative because the interface is not public. Zero technical skill required to fake.
Fabricated Gumroad Analytics dashboard showing 178 sales, 14,834 views, $17,266 total

A fake $17,266 month, made in the thirty seconds between turning on the laptop and finishing a sip of coffee. Right click, Inspect, double click the number, type whatever you want, screenshot.

Fake 2 The "product list" flex. Popular because it suggests a running business. Same trick.
Fabricated Gumroad product list row showing The AI Income Starter Kit with 178 sales and $17,266 revenue

Same trick. A product that does not exist yet at a price we have never charged, with a revenue figure that matches every other guru post you have scrolled past this week.

Fake 3 The "public sales badge" flex. The most convincing of the three because the page itself is real and public. The number on it is not.

Want to check? Click through to our real product page. The sales count there is whatever it actually is today. We did not touch it.

Every browser has a tool that lets anyone edit any page. It takes sixty seconds to learn.

This is not a hack. It is a standard developer feature built into Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. Every guru posting screenshots knows it exists. Most of their audience does not.

Run the steps below on this page right now. Try editing the headline above. Try changing our wordmark. The point is to feel how easy it is.

  1. 01
Right click any text on this page. Choose Inspect.
A panel opens showing the code behind the page. The text you clicked will be highlighted. On a Mac use Cmd + Option + I. On Windows use Ctrl + Shift + I.
  2. 02
Double click the highlighted text in the code panel.
It becomes editable. Type whatever you want. Press Enter.
  3. 03
    The page updates instantly.
The change is local to your browser. Nobody else sees it. You could now screenshot this page with any headline, any number, any claim.
  4. 04
Refresh. The real page comes back.
But the screenshot is already taken. That is the entire trick. A screenshot is not evidence. It is a picture of what somebody's browser looked like for one second.

The same steps work on any site. A bank balance. A Stripe dashboard. A follower count. A five figure revenue number. If you have seen the screenshot, it could have been made like this.

If someone uses these three phrases, treat everything else they say as marketing.

We banned these three phrases from our own copy. If we ever use them, you have permission to stop listening to us. The reason is simple: they promise things that cannot be delivered honestly at this income level.

A creator using all three is not always lying. But they are definitely selling. Adjust accordingly.

Three questions you can run on anyone before you hand them money.

  1. 01
    Is their product page public?
A real seller has a live URL you can open. A Gumroad or Stripe or similar page with a visible sales count that the seller cannot edit.
  2. 02
Does the number they post match the number on the page right now?
Open their public page in a fresh tab. If they claim 500 sales and the page shows 12, the screenshot they used was fabricated or out of date on purpose.
  3. 03
Are the only numbers they share the unverifiable ones?
"Total revenue," "students helped," "email subscribers." None of those can be checked from the outside. If the only numbers in their bio are numbers you cannot independently verify, assume they are invented until proven otherwise.

The Upshift Commitment

  • Our Gumroad page is public. The sales count is visible before you buy. Whatever it shows today is real.
  • We do not use the three phrases above in our own marketing. Not in emails. Not in posts. Not in ads.
  • Our follower counts on Instagram and TikTok are publicly displayed on those platforms. We will not claim numbers for anything else, because those cannot be independently verified.
  • This is the standard we hold ourselves to. If we ever stop, unsubscribe, unfollow, and tell people we broke the rule we set for ourselves.
